Testing glazes

Pottery tip of the day:

Remember that glazes run when fired so if you are testing a new and untried glaze, you will want to leave your coats of colour approximately 1/16-1/8” up from the bottom of the piece. Also, make some “cookies” to put each test on. Cookies are flat, round, bisc pieces..about the size and shape of a cookie, that the piece with the test glaze can be put on when firing and if the glaze runs too much, it will run on the cookie not the shelf. (I also like to use pieces of broken kiln shelves for this, works just the same)
