Soft Slab building

Pottery tip of the day:

Soft slab building:

You can support your slabs while hand building, by cutting templates out of tar paper or cardboard.
That will support the slabs so that you can put them together while they are still soft.
Then when the clay hardens just peel the tar paper/cardboard off. Usually the tar paper / cardboard is still in good enough condition that you can use it again, so it makes a great template too.

I tried this and the tar paper would not stay stuck to the clay. Is tar paper the same as roofing paper, comes on a big roll?
